HYUNDAI MOTORS and Stallion Investments Ghana Limited has officially launched its all-new entry level Hyundai EON car onto the Ghanaian market last week.
The 2017 Hyundai EON, manufactured by Hyundai India, inherits looks from the Hyundai i10, and is a manual transmission.
Hyundai EON is also a fuel efficient car with great style, comfort & quality.
At the media launch in Accra, the dealers of Hyundai Motors in Ghaan said, ‘because the Eon has been designed to be smart, efficient and ecologically-friendly, its power system is able to squeeze 20.3 kilometres out of every liter of fuel, which keeps driving costs low.’
He noted that the car’s sporty interior design contributes to a spacious, comfortable feeling, which makes driving fun.
The Hyundai EON is selling at US$9,900 as showroom price, but for the month of October, the cars sells at a promotional price of US$8,354.
The dealers are expecting to sell 100 cars within the promotional period.
The Eon is Hyundai’s latest entry-level hatch. It competes with the Alto and the Kwid. It is the perfect blend of style, performance and economy.
Inspired from Hyundai’s Fluidic design philosophy, the Eon features fluidic lines running all over, and a sloping roofline with a unique arc style. The front fascia look dynamic due to the dual tone radiator grille and a large air-intake, new sweptback headlamps and fog lamps. The rear of the car stand out due to the high-mounted LED stop-lamp, and a tail-lamp cluster with extra-large reflectors. It also features a roof antenna, electric ORVMs and body-colored door handles.
It features the 155/70 R13 tubeless tyres with a 8-spoke wheel cover.
Hyundai has loaded the Eon with a lot of features, for an entry level hatch. The interior is a dual tone design which is appealing to the eye. The plush interiors include – ergonomically designed seats, floor and dash console storing, ergonomically designed central console, 3-spoke steering wheel, map pockets with bottle holders, climate control system, and a 6.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The boot also has ample space.
ENGINE, PERFORMANCE, FUEL ECONOMY, RIDE, HANDLING & SAFETY
The Eon comes with 2 options:
The 1.0L 3-cylinder k-series petrol engine produces a power of 69ps and 94Nm of peak torque; and an 800cc 3-cylinder petrol engine which produces 56ps of power and 74Nm of peak torque. Both these engines come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox.
The pick-up is quite fast and the ride is really smooth. It features a Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) with tilt function, McPherson strut in the front and torsion beam axle suspension in the rear, front disc brakes, and gear shift indicator. But the engine feels ordinary and the steering feels too light at highway speeds.
The safety features include reinforced body strength, improved side door ramming strength and a redesigned upper body for effectively distributing the impact force.
As per ARAI norms, the 1.0L engine gives a mileage of 20.3kmpl and the 800cc engine gives 21.1kmpl of mileage.
It’s also equipped with convenience features like – 2 din audio system with Aux-in, USB ports, power windows, rear parcel tray, keyless entry and internally adjustable ORVMs.
Considering all the pros and cons of the Eon, and Hyundai’s reliability, many segment first features and being overpriced, this car is worth a thought.
