The Ghana Navy, has been deployed to Bui in search of some 15 passengers missing while travelling Friday on the Bui reservoir in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The victims are yet to be accounted for after their boats capsized midway through the journey.
A statement signed and issued by the Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Fred Oware, announcing the incident said one boat conveying market women to the Jama market had capsized near an upstream village called Accra Town occurring in the morning of Friday, June 30.
The said boat was reportedly carrying about 15 passengers believed to be market women, but developed a fault with its outboard motor near the said village, Mr Oscar Torgbadza, an elder and member of the fishermen’s association of Jama, had disclosed.
Mr Torgbadza said a mechanic used another fishing boat to carry another outboard motor to assist the distressed boat which also capsized during the assistance due to strong winds on the reservoir at that time. He’s unable to confirm the number of casualties.
Reports say the reservoir has been rising steadily lately, in view of the heavy rainfall in the enclave.
