A Ghanaian Model and Actress, Gifty Adrah, who is also into singing, has advised the two feuding dancehall artistes in Ghana to use their energy to promote Ghana instead of the unnecessary attacks on each other.
“we just can’t allow music to divide the country. We are one people with one common destiny,” she stated.
“We want our dancehall artistes to promote peace and unity in Ghana, but what do we see, today ‘Shata Wale attacks Stonebwoy’, tomorrow its ‘Stonebwoy disses Shata Wale’, what is the meaning of all these. Can this bring us development?” she asked rather rhetorically.
She was speaking in an interview with ghananewsonline.com.gh in reaction to the unending feud between the two leading Ghanaian dancehall artistes – Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
The two artistes have in recent times been at each other’s throat with each trying to outdo the other in what some industry players have described as “superiority contest”.
“In as much as we love their music, we can’t continue to be condoning their violence, hate and bigotry statements against each other,” Adrah stated.
These two artistes known in private lives as Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr (Shatta Wale) and Livingstone Etse Satekla (Stoneybwoy) go to the extent of inciting their funs against each other.
According to the budding actress who is also known as ‘The Screen goddess’ due to her piercing beauty, “This is not good for the image of the two popular dancehall artistes and the country as a whole. I think they must stop it and stop it now,” she stated emotionally.
Dancehall music is a household genre in Ghana. Though there are several artistes in the country on that bit, these two personalities have strong grips on the category haven created their own unique styles.
Dancehall is a Jamaican genre of music originating in the late 1970’s to give the youth a more liberal, vibrant, energy and alternative rhythm to the more conscious genre called reggae at the time.
But dancehall music has its own set of controversies, as some see it as promoting violence and promiscuity.
