The fortunes of the Ghana movie industry is seeing a downward turn in recent times; an undeniable fact that calls for concern. Even the casual observer would have realised that compared to previous years, the number of Ghanaian films released and premiered these days have reduced significantly.
As pointed out by Actress Gifty Adrah, who has over a decade experience in the local film industry, she believes not too long ago movie actors and actresses took matters in their own hands with regards to movie production.
This according to her, gave birth to the era of movie actors/actresses producing and staring in their own movies.
In an interview with bibinionline.com, the Actress noted among others that, “the movie industry as we see it now is dying gradually due to the lost of content and value in our movies”.
She said Ghanaians have copied blindly and pay less attention to the showcasing of the real Ghanaian culture and morals in out films. This according to her has really dented the image of the local film industry.
She further advised the leadership of the Ghanaian film industry to restructure their action plans in the interest of the industry. She also pleaded with the government to come in support of the creative industry so as to restore the film industry to help us showcase our real identity as Ghanaians.
Gifty Adrah has starred in movies and television series like ‘Heels and Sneakers’, ‘Facebook’, ‘Ugly Bargain’, ‘The First Note’, ‘Desperate Strangers’, ‘Absolute Corruption’, ‘24 June’ and the yet to be released TV series ‘Brazen’.
