The Minister responsible for Agriculture in Ghana, Dr. Afriyie Akoto, has inaugurated a 9-member Governing Board for the Cocoa Processing Company Limited (CPC), an agency under the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD). The Board is responsible for overseeing the affairs of the industry.
The minister said the inauguration forms part of the transformation agenda of the government to ensure that the cocoa industry benefits the country.
Dr. Akoto Afriyie said the growth and total transformation of the processing company depend on the decision and hard work of the Board which is significant and must be seen as such.
He urged the governing board to be firm in decision making and work assiduously to ensure that the industry attains the significant achievement.
The Chairman of the Board, Kwaku Owusu Baah welcomed the minister’s advice that they should work hard to achieve their objectives and transform the CPC to the benefit of the country.
“We are very grateful for the confidence posed in us and we take note of your marching orders to help transform the CPC into a viable and profitable state-owned enterprise,” he stressed.
He assured the minister that, though the members understand the enormity of task assigned to them, they would exhibit professionalism and leadership skills throughout their term in office.
“We understand the enormity of the task that you have assigned to us and wish to assure you that we would bring our professionalism and collective experience to bear in this regard,” he added.
Kwaku Owusu Baah called for policy options and drastic measures in ensuring that some value is added to the cocoa products produced under the CPC as the main agenda.
He again asked the minister to support the Board in all endeavor to enable them to address the fundamental issues confronting the industry and to work towards achieving the goal of the industry.

Whiles the Board awaits for the Ministry of Finance to nominate a member.
