The Senior Divisional Chief (Awaklasuga) and acting Paramount Chief of Somey Traditional Area in The Ketu South Municipality of The Volta Region, Torgbui Sape Agbo (v) has disclosed that, all is set for the burial service and the final funeral rites for the late Torgbui Hor II, The former Makorsor of Somey Traditional Area.
In an exclusive interview with Francis Edzorna Mensah on preparations leading to the burial service and other matters arising, The ‘Awaklasuga’ revealed that over five hundred (500) funeral invitations have been printed and distributed to Chiefs, Traditional Rulers, friends and other sympathizers both at home and abroad.
According to him, all the necessary steps have been taken, including writing to the Security Agencies, “without preempting the ruling, but if the funeral should come on, I can I sure you that, there will be a total security. The Local Security, The Police Service would be there and if possible The National Security would also be there”.
He stressed the point that, “we are prepared for other things for the funeral. I’m only praying that The Court will listen to us, but whatever be the case, we shall abide by the ruling”
Who should organize the funeral?…………….., a letter from the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs dated 16th November. 2017, titled: “Re: Petition to Permit the Burial of the Late Torgbui Hor II, Former Paramount Chief of Somey Traditional Area Who Died On 24th September, 2012 appointed Togbe Sepe Agbo (v), Senior Divisional Chief of Somey Traditional Area as The Chairman, plus three members: The Paramount Chief of Aflao Traditional Area, The Paramount Chief of Klikor Traditional Council, The Registrar, Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Ho and any other Traditional Rulers and Personalities you find fit to be members.
The Committee was expected to submit its report including tentative programme for the burial and funeral rites of the late Paramount Chief to the Ministry for action.
According to the invitation sent out, the old man would be laid in state from 14th to 18 May, 2018, burial service and final funeral rites, 19th May, 2018, the thanksgiving service, 20th May 2018 and venue for the funeral is Palace Court Yard, Agbozume in line with a ruling delivered by Agbozume Magistrate Court, given the green light to The Sape Agbo Committee to go ahead and bury The Late Torgbui Hor II.
Meanwhile, motion on notice for interlocutory injunction has be filed at The Denu High Court to be moved on Friday the 4th day of May, 2018 at 9am.
The motion filed by Torgbui Adamah III a.k.a Julius Kodzo Adaku Junior of Makorsor Palace, Agbozume with three others vrs Togbui Sape Agbo (v) of Xedranawo near Denu with Nine others is praying for an order for interlocutory injunction restraining the defenders their agents, servants, privies and assigns from organising the funeral and burial of late Torgbui Hor II, the late Makorsor of Somey Traditional Area on the 19th day of May, 2018 pending the final determination of the suit upon grounds stated in the accompanying affidavit.
And for any further order or orders as to this honourable Court may seem fit, The Deponent (Torgbui admah II) added.
In affidavit in support of motion on notice for interlocutory injunction, Togbui Adamah II wanted “a declaration that as The Paramount Chief, 1st plaintiff is the proper person to organise the funeral and burial ceremony for the late Paramount Chief of Somey Tradional Area.
But Torgbui Sape Agbo (v), in separate interview said there is no Paramount Chief of Somey Tradional Area at the time of filing this report.
Relying on another letter intercepted by our News Team from The Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs (Volta Regional House of Chiefs) dated 4th July, 2016 titled: Re: Clandestine installation of one Mr. Julius Daku and Robert K. M. Agbenyega as the Makorsor of Somey’, affirmed asserction made by Torgbui Sape Agbo (v).
Excerpts of this letter reads….. “It is pertinent to indicate that, there are cases pending against the installation of the successor to Togbui Hor II. While these cases remain pending, this House cannot accept anybody as the Paramount Chief of Somey”.
Torgbui Hor II joined his ancestors about 6 years ago at 94.
