The former Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbors Authority (GPHA), Paul Asare Ansah, on Monday stormed the Tortibo District Assembly Basic School in the Asuogyaman District to celebrate his birthday. The gesture is in honor of Ruth Siantey, who scored the best grade, aggregate Seven (07), in the 2018 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the District.
“On the occasion of the day I was born, I decided to spend the day with Tortibo District Assembly Basic School in honor of Ruth Siantey who scored the best aggregate, Seven in the 2018 BECE results, and also to honor the teachers who struggled hard, through these conditions that we are all witnessing here to teach this girl, to encourage them, and pupils of the school,” l Paul Ansah said.
He said “you have proven that no matter where you find yourself in life you can make it with hard work, determination and perseverance”.
Paul Asare Ansah recalled when he was approached by the District Education Directorate, headed by Madam Mavis Yirenkye, through the Asuogyaman District Assembly to sponsor the district mock exams,
“I went further to organize extra classes, pay the teachers to teach the candidates for three extra weeks through the holidays to encourage, enable them prepare Better for the BECE.
“We provided them with the necessary logistics that they needed to write the exams, mathematical set, pens, pencils rulers, among others,” he noted.
The former GPHA Boss who has forfilled his promise to the then candidates to provide full complement of the prospectus of students entering into the senior high School with grade six 06 to ten 10, ranging from briefcase to broom, said his office has fully sponsored 15 candidates with full complements on their prospectus to the senior high school. They also awarded the students with a total amount of Ghc 4500.00.
On his part, the District Chief Excutive for the area, Samuel Kwame Agyekum, congratulated the school for their success. He called on the schools in the district to Learn from the Tortibo D/A School.
He took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Paul Ansah saying “education in Asuogyaman will improve if we have five of your kind in this our district”
The District Education Director Madam Mavis Yirenkye, ceased the opportunity to show appreciations to the former Director General. She recounted the numerous supports received from him by the Education Directorate including organizing inter schools quiz competitions among the senior high schools in the district which started last year and was first won by Boso Senior High Technical School.
In showing appreciation to the school the teachers received one half piece of clothing.
