Folks, we already know the storm that the NPP (in opposition) raised about the appointment of Mrs. Charlotte Osei as Chairperson of the Electoral Commission. That storm took different twists and turns but ended up in smoke.
No attempt at tarnishing Mrs. Osei’s image (as done by Kennedy Agyapong) or undercutting her by all manner of people making unproven allegations against her could frustrate the appointing authority or the appointee herself.
Disgracing her publicly as offering her body for the position and that she was a Nigerian and not a Ghanaian didn’t help them.
No legal action against her appointment fetched the outcome that the NPP sought.
Neither could the NPP prevent her from doing her job, which resulted in an outcome at Election 2016 that Akufo-Addo and his gang applauded Mrs. Osei for.
The tension might seem to have evaporated thereafter; but not really so. The under-currents have remained strong, leading to what is unfolding now to take on the EC Chair from a different angle.
The petition against her that allegedly came from staff of the EC is reported to have been sent to the Presidency and acknowledged as such. Numerous points raised in that petition have caught our attention. Mrs. Osei has already dismissed the petition as borne out of mischief and other vile intents and purposes.
Her demand for the identity of the petitioners to be disclosed and the threat to sue the lawyer representing them have added an interesting complexion to the matter.
That is where I come in. I consider the petition as politically motivated (at least, tracing it to the storm that the NPP had set up in the tea cup before Election 2016 and considering the fact that disdain for her still persists).
Again, the fact that the names of the petitioners have not been disclosed deepens the suspicion that they may also not exist but are being used by faceless political interests to undo Mrs. Osei.
Where on earth are petitioners’ names not stated in the petition for society to know who they are even before placing the contents of their petition?
Furthermore, any talk of “impeachment” of Mrs. Osei is a non-starter. Let Akufo-Addo forward that bogus petition to the Chief Justice for action and we shall all see who will be who in Ghana.
The time has come for stern action to be taken by all those against the nonsense going on. If the use of “takashi” to get rid of public officers is Akufo-Addo’s trump-card to play, it shouldn’t be difficult to use the same “takashi” to place him and his gang where they belong. Too much of this kind of rogue politics won’t grow our democracy.
And for those of us opposed to their madness, “takashi” can come in any form at all once it will neutralize them and their crude politics. Don’t tell me that I don’t live in Ghana and cannot do “fooko”!!
Let it be said again and again that the “takashi” to neutralize them will come in many forms. If that is what they want, let them prepare for it. As is already known, to be forewarned is to be forearmed. We are monitoring the situation from far and near.
