Aquinas Tawiah Quansah also known aa Shatta1, who served as a Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Regional Minister for the Central Region, Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development and a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mfantseman West Constituency in the Central Region, has picked forms to contest the Central Regional chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
A foremost socio-political group in the Central Region, chiefs and supporters of the NDC have rated the candidature of Hon Aquinas as the best to turnaround the fortunes of the region, rallying NDC supporters and delegates in the Region to queue behind their darling ‘boy’ in the upcoming NDC regional election for the rebirth of the party in the Region.
A group of opinion leaders in the Region who addressed members of the party who joined the former regional minister to pick his forms, the group charged supporters of the NDC in the region to use the chairmanship election to liberate the party from what it termed “NPP divisive agenda against Central Region”.
The group also charged Mr Aquinas to strategically positron himself ahead of the 2020 election, to deliver the Region to the NDC.
The group said amongst the names out so far, Hon Aquinas is able to tell the people the problems facing the party in the Region, and how he intent to solve them, adding that all the contests in proposals and plans submitted by Aquinas are real and achievable.
A chief in the Region who spoke on strict anonymity, expressed optimism that when Hon Aquinas is elected regional chairman of the party, most of the youth will vote for the NDC because of his humility, affability and the policies outlined in his abridged manifesto. He said that there was no any aspirant among the names out that could match the credibility of the former regional minister.
He said, Shatta has proved beyond reasonable doubt to be honest, sincere and committed in meeting the desire needs of party supporters irrespective of position in the party. He said the former regional minister brought significant transformation to the Region when he was the regional minister. He explained that Shatta within few years as regional minister brought significant development and initiated a lot of projects including markets, the sports stadium, roads, hospitals etc. He opened his office 24/7 to all party supporters irrespective of their status.
Hon Aquinas is a grassroot mobiliser. How he mobilised the grassroots in his constituency to unseat Asamoah Boateng still remains a mystery. He is admired by the youth across the political divide because of his humility, style and affability. Apart from his political astuteness, he is an entrepreneur who is doing well in his personal business.
