The youth in the Central regional capital Cape Coast are set to benefit from free technical and vocational training to be delivered by the Cape Coast Technical University.

The programme which is sponsored by the MP for Cape Coast North Barbara Asher Ayisi will train the youth and women in crafts such as dress making, hair dressing, installation and repair of satellite television, mobile phones, electrical and electronics, motor vehicle repairs among others.

Speaking at the launch, the Deputy Minister of Education Ayisi indicated that the country’s development is dependent on education and most importantly technical and vocational education.

She stressed that as a nation, there is the need to invest into technical and vocational training since that is the back bone of every economy.

She indicated that technical and vocational education really equips people with the needed skills to create their own jobs and wealth.

She added that the training to be delivered by the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Innovation (CEDI) will indeed help get a lot of the unemployed off the street hence reducing poverty in the area.

Such people, she added, will now have the skills to help them earn decent living as they can even create their own jobs.

“Therefore there is the need to equip the youth with employable skills, in order to help them become entrepreneurs rather than they relying on others for jobs,” the lawmaker said.

She emphasized that the program is not for a particular section of the community but for all, especially those passionate about equipping themselves in order to improve upon themselves and promote Ghana’s development.

The Vice Chancellor of the Cape Coast Technical University, Prof Lawrence Atepor on his part assured the public of the university’s commitment and readiness in delivering quality training to the youth who will register for the program.

Prof. Atepor added that the university agreed to partner the MP to offer training to the youth both skilled and unskilled because the university as a corporate institution has a social responsibility to the very people who provided the land for the construction of the university aside helping the country to deal with the issue of unemployment.
