Our investigations have revealed that agents of the Akufo-Addo presidency are working in cohort with some compromised top officials of the Electoral Commission to use NPP hoodlums to provide cover for the diversion of electoral materials.
Our investigation shows that part of the plot is to use planned military operations in some strongholds of the NDC as a subterfuge to unleash heavy security presence to intimidate, harass and instil fear in voters in NDC strongholds across the country and pave the way for the allocation of fictitious votes to President Akufo-Addo and NPP parliamentary candidates.
Ghana is a peaceful democratic state and we are not in a state of emergency that requires the militarization of our electoral process. The President has compromised our security institutions, the electoral commission has been annexed by the Akufo-Addo presidency. This is the reason why the commission has not been able to conduct any credible elections since the new leadership took over.
Our international partners must insist and encourage a free, fair and credible election in 2020. They must caution against manipulation, militarization of polls and other abuses that are capable of truncating our democracy and endangering the lives of Ghanaians and resident foreigners as a result of a failed electoral process.
Politicization of our security agencies, use of hoodlums under the guise of National security would threaten Ghana’s stability.
We call Western Democratic Nations, Ecowas, The AU and the United Nations to play more active role in helping the country with credible elections. Our western partners or development partners should go beyond economic investment by exerting political pressure on President Akufo-Addo and his associates to immediately abandon their plan to rig the 2020 election and to open up the political space.
The democratic gains achieved over the years are being threatened by the persistent perception of the opposition as an enemy that has to be crushed.
Those compromised security heads want to turn the security agencies into an extension of the ruling party. The state is sponsoring these hoodlums. The President and his Npp are not preparing for a free, fair and credible election in 2020. What happened at Ayawaso West Wuogon and pronouncements by some officials of the Npp and appointees of President Akufo Addo, confirm the rigging allegation. Npp hoodlums wearing national security uniform wielding sophisticated weapons were rolled out by the Minister of State in charge of security to prevent opposition from voting and to unleash terror on agents of the opposition at the various polling stations.
There is tension in the country over possible manipulation by the presidency and if the United Nations, Western Democratic Nations and our development partners fail to intervene and support a credible, free and fair elections, the nation may wake up to a post election violence capable of birthing a huge humanitarian crisis not only in the country but also in the entire subregion.
