The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Values For Lives, Madam Dzifa Gomashie, has underscored the need for the country to use the creative arts and culture sector as the engine to drive Ghana to its socio-economic destination.
She is of a firm conviction that if the country ignores the use of the creative arts and culture sector as a tool for development it would continue to crawl.
The ex-Deputy Minister in charge of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Arts under the John Dramani Mahama administration told GhanaNewsOnline.com.gh during the launch of the 5th edition of the Ghana Poetry Festival that, countries like America and England are doing well because they understand the power of creative arts and culture sector.
Madam Gomashie said America and other countries have become famous and are raking in millions of dollars from thesector because they have invested into the industry, and are harnessing the talents in the sector. She emphasied that it is not only in the area of science, engineering and mathematics that the country can use to develop.
She made a passionate appeal to the Government and other policy makers to honor poets for their creativity, talents and create a fertile ground for them to grow.
Oswald Nii Okaitei, a Spoken Word artiste and Pan African poet said Ghana Poetry Festival which is slated for November this year will be interspersed with performances, workshops, master classes and exhibitions.
