The Association of Development Communicators of the African University College of Communications (AUCC) on Saturday 24th June, 2017 organized a Clean-Up Exercise.
The exercise was under the theme, “Saving the National Purse” to rid Tudu, a suburb of Accra of filth which has choked the gutters and has the tendency of creating a disaster either through flooding or an epidemic.
A leading member of the group, Mr. Bashiru Salifu Zibo noted that the initiative was their own little way of preventing a situation where filth at Tudu would be a cause for the state coffers to be drained aside the loss of lives that is imminent in flood disasters and sanitary epidemics.
He told FocusGhOnline reporter, Agede Mawuena Komla their plans to sustain this sanitation campaign. He stated “we have adopted the participatory approach to development and we are using the empowerment level of participation. This program has the buy-in of the people and they see this as their own which explains why most of the youth of the area are actively participating in the process.”
He said this is the maiden project of the association and plans are far advanced for the second project which will be for the commemorative day celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day.
The Association also distributed stickers to the community members with the inscriptions “keep Tudu clean”, “The only way to stop littering is you”.
