A Deputy Minister of  Finance, Mr Kwaku Kwarteng, has warned Citi FM’s Umaru Sanda Amadu never to call him onto his show (Citi Eye witness news) again. The Deputy Minister got incensed when the host exposed the contradictions in his response to the $15Bn China loan.

The trouble started after the host pointed out what Dr Maamudu Bawumia said about the loan which sharply contradicted what the Minister said on the show. According to Mr Kwarteng, there is nothing like leveraging Ghana’s mineral resources to access the loan. The host Umaru Sanda then referred him to an earlier statement made by Dr Bawumia which sharply contradicts what the minister has been saying in all his interviews.

The minister’s statement seemed to suggest that there are two documents currently before the ministry; a parody the host could not understand. The host quoted the earlier statement by Dr Bawumia which sparked the minister’s anger

“Our untapped mineral resources include 2.8bn metric tonnes of iron ore, 960 million metric tonnes of Bauxite, 430m metric tonnes of manganese and 413 metric tonnes of limestone. This, include Gold and so on,” Dr Bawumia had stated.

He said this while responding to questions on what Ghana is going to offer China in exchange for the loan facility.

The deputy minister angrily warned the host never to invite him onto his show again. The minister extended his anger on Mr Isaac Adongo who was speaking from the other side of the programme. He attacked him for describing the whole loan arrangement as reckless.

Mr Kwarteng was a regular  panelist on  almost all of Citi FM’S political talk shows when his party- the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was in opposition.
