Motorists and residents around the Adentan Municipality and its environs in the Greater Accra Region have been asked to heave a sigh of relief as the government moves to intervene for the construction of some key roads.

It would be recalled that some residents of the Adentan Municipality have for some time now been agitating over roads by making calls to the government for actions that would remedy the deplorable nature of their roads. Among others they have asked for the construction of overhead footbridges in sections of the highway to end the incessant road accidents that have characterized some of the roads.

As an assurance to the people, the Member of Parliament for Adentan Constituency, Yaw Buaben Asamoah has asked residents in his constituency to be patient since the Akuffo Addo government has rolled out the construction of an unprecedented amount of road projects which are comprehensive in scope and reach for any particular time within the Adentan constituency.

In an interaction with Members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC Ghana) in Parliament on Wednesday, the Adentan lawmaker indicated that the contracts for the problematic roads have already been awarded. He said the Adentan Municipality will also benefit from the Synohydro infrastructure package with a 22 kilometer dual carriageway from the Aburi road junction to Dodowa.

“This is to assure the people of Adentan Municipality, especially those who live near and those who move regularly on the arterial Ashale Botwe road that, the road has already been given out on contract for remedial works which will see a concrete asphaltic overlay soon,” he stated.

Lawyer Boabeng Asamoah pleaded for calm since the desired actions to assuage their plight have been taken and they will soon enjoy the benefits.

“Please be calm and relax because the contract for asphaltic overlay received approval last year, and was awarded to JUSTMOH CONSTRUCTION who’s equipment was seen recently scarifying the ‘Highways Junction’ part of the road,” he said.

According to the Member of Parliament, out of the 664 km of roads in the Municipality only 140 km has been paved, leaving a deficit in excess of 400 km. This has informed government’s action in a massive intervention which has ‘resulted in a pledge of works on about eleven major arterial roads by the Ministry of Roads and Highways’, including the completion of the Dual Carriageway in the ‘Aviation’ area.

He gave an update of the eight out of the eleven roads currently being pursued by the Ministry of Roads and Highways, through the Department of Urban Roads as follows:

  1. The Otanor dual carriageway to School Junction being done by Oswald Limited.
  2. The asphaltic overlay of roads within the SSNIT Flats, also to be executed by Oswald Limited.
  3. The Ghana Canada road which according to him is virtually complete.
  4. Contractor on site and already working on drains on the bad Nsuonano/Lakeside road.
  5. Nanakrom to Katamanso ongoing.
  6. Amanfrom (Regimanuel) to Katamanso also ongoing.
  7. ‘Lotto Kiosk’ in front of Oyoko Clinic is ongoing.
  8. And the Ashale Botwe asphaltic overlay.

The MP also informed the media that his outfit in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly are working hard on a comprehensive solution to the water distribution problem, which is one of the biggest challenges of the people living in the Adentan Municipality.
