ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER of Police (ACP) Dr. Benjamin Agordzor, who vehemently condemned major political parties for armtwisting the Police Service to do their biddings, has revealed that he is not afraid of being victimised for condemning governing parties.
The tough-talking police officer was unequivocal when he told other officers of the security agency how the two main political parties in Ghana: the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) intentionally cow the Police Service to favour them.
His speech during a recent symposium organised by the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG) has since gone viral on social media.
“No superior officer of mine has called me or no Minister has called me. It is rather family and friends who are calling me and expressing fear I could be victimized by those in authority, but I am not bothered because the things I say are the truth”, he said in interviews monitored by Whatsup News.
The senior policeman who is the Director of Transformation Programmes Office of the Ghana Police Service said the menace of political vigilantism is clearly endorsed by the two main political parties and there is nothing the Police can do about it.
“I get worried when I hear people lambast the police for failing to arrest these persons. The police have every power to clamp down on them, but how do you expect us to act when our hands are tied under the very laws that govern our operations?” Dr Agordzor told colleagues at the event in a video that has since gone viraI.
“If care is not taken, we will have rule of political parties instead of rule of law. If you thought that vigilante activities constitute a problem now, then wait until it truly explodes. I call it Ghana’s unexploded political ordinance,” he said.
