Forestry Institute of Ghana hosts Students from Lakehead University

The Forestry Institute of Ghana (FORIG) of the Center for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on Thursday, August 31, hosted students from the Faculty of Human Resources Management of the Lakehead University in Canada.

The visit, was to expose the students to the best international management practices of natural resources and forest research in Ghana.

Laird Vandamme, an Adjunct Professor at the Faculty of Natural Resources Management of the Lakehead University,lauded the FORIG for its works and achievements over the years.

For him,the research work at FORIG was impressive adding that “it is incredible to see the kinds of research that come with phenomenal outcomes”.

Prof. Vandamme noted that, natural resources would always be part of mankind and so there was the need to find ways they would be beneficial to man and other living species as well as find means to protect them.

Director of FORIG, Professor Daniel Anniagyei Ofori, said the Institute would welcome collaboration with the university in areas of plant research where FORIG intends to improve on.

“FORIG is in discussions with Lakehead University to embark on a future collaborative Research, capacity building, exchange programs in order to strengthen the Institutions”, Prof. Ofori explained.

He noted that it was refreshing to host students from Lakehead University as their visit signified the embracement of FORIG internationally.

The about twenty undergraduate students from one of Canada’s biggest universities were taken through some of the research works of the institute.
