THE New Public Affairs Officer of the United States Embassy in Ghana, Roberto Quiroz II, has described Ghana “as the future of Africa”, pledged to work with his Ambassador towards helping the nation achieve prosperity for also citizens.

He said America would like to help Ghana to develop a nation where all citizens utilised their full potentials; become stronger democratically; become the model of a corrupt-free society in Africa; create enough job opportunities for its youth; and be self-sufficient in food production.

“Ghana is the future of Africa today, with its democratic credentials, modern infrastructure, malls, American franchises, etc, but importantly, that its modernity is accompanied by a love of tradition in its full colour,” he said.

“…You have a people who love their faith, a people who love community and America counts you as a great partner. We truly look forward to deepening our partnerships with you,” he stated at a reception hosted by the Embassy to welcome him.

Ms Melinda Tabler-Stone, Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy, hosted the reception, which was attended by a cross-section of Ghanaian leaders in mainly the social services sector; and some key staff of the Embassy.

Quiroz said Ghana was doing well in upholding the rule of law, encouraging private sector growth and speaking against corruption; and these must be encouraged to achieve worthy sustainable outcomes.

“Ghana is different from other nations on the continent because the private sector plays a key role in the economy and the Government responds to the people when they talk,” he noted.

“…it must continue to do so, and the fact that so many investments are coming to Ghana is good.”
Quiroz said it was critical for Ghanaian entrepreneurs to flourish in their respective areas of the economy to make them meet the needs of the country, and the continent.

He commended Ambassador Robert Jackson and his team at the Embassy for their dedication to strengthening partnerships with Ghana.

“I’m learning from my team, from what they have done and their example.”

Quiroz praised the warm reception that he and his family had received since arriving in Ghana about six weeks ago, saying, they had felt right at home. “We’ve never felt that way before in any nation; you feel at home in Ghana; everyone feels at home in Ghana.”

Ms Tabler-Stone, said Mr Quiroz was no stranger to Africa as this was his third posting to the continent, the first two being in Cameroon and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

His diverse background also includes service in Timor Leste and South Korea.

She commended his hard work and infectious enthusiasm. “It’s coupled with a great mind and a very strategic outlook and ability to see the big picture, so we’re really going to enjoy having him here,” she said.

Some of the guests the GNA spoke to invariably commended Mr Quiroz’s hearty personality, saying his friendliness and goodwill were touching, and they looked forward to working with him.
