The Ashanti Region branch of the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA), has inaugurated a regional task force to deal with Road Reservation management and protection in the region.
This is in compliance with the Ghana Highway Authority Act 540 of 1997. The five member task force will protect region’s roads and highways in and also manage and reserve in order to prevent carnages on the region’s roads and highways as well as protect properties.
The five member regional task force comprises of Nurudeen Moomin, the Regional Safety and Environment officer, Albert Amon, the regional Auditor, Elorm Fiagbey, the regional Surveyor, Michael Turkson, Administrative secretary and Nana Ninsin Imbeah, the chairman for the Ghana Highway Authority retired staff Association (GHARSA).
In his inaugural address dubbed “Constitution of Right-of-way Task force”, the Ashanti regional director for the Authority, Christian Nti, said the task force is mandated to remove all structures illegally cited within the road Reservations and prevent any further encroachment on the roads and highways with immediate effect.
He said the team would also demand and inspect permits for entry and exit of all fuel filling stations cited within the region and be made to pay the appropriate charges as stipulated in the fees and charges Amendment Instrument, 2016.
The task force would also identity all persons who have, without the written permission of the the Authority, carried out illegal excavations within the road corridor for for all such persons to be surcharged for the illegitimate destruction of public property.
“Failures to pay for the destruction caused would be made to face the full rigors of the law,” he charged.
Christian Nti later appealed to all stakeholders far and near to assist the Authority in the Ashanti region to protect and maintain public properties for posterity.
In an Interview with the press, a member of the task force, Nana Ninsin Imbeah, said they will work hard and make recommendations for the prosecution of all defaulters in the appropriate court of competent jurisdiction.
The team also pledged to discharge its assignment with high level of professionalism and dedication and due diligence.
