Described as one of the most respected international peace icons, the world last week bid farewell to former United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, who passed on recently.

Apart from being the first black UN Secretary General who served two uncontested terms, Kofi Annan undoubtedly performed exceptionally in promoting the growth of the UN body, as well as keeping the world at peace, while facilitating development.

The tributes that poured in from international organisations after his demise, demonstrates his exceptional legacy as a world diplomat par excellence, and distinguished service to humanity, as well as the many peace interventions he has helped to implement.

Beyond the unanimous international acclaim bestowed on him, Kofi Annan needs to be immotalized through a deliberate effort by all international bodies who have benefited from the services of the late global peace development and peace icon.

We take cognizance of the fact that a number of countries and institutions have taken steps to immotalise the memory of Kofi Annan by instituting programmes and awards in his name.

However, we are confident that his impact of his memory would be more felt in the global stage if international bodies and regional groupings such as the UN itself, African Union, European Union, ECOWAS, SADC, COMESA, ASEAN and the Arab League, among others, immotalize Kofi Annan.

In that regard, we urge all international bodies to set up structures to immortalize his memory so as to inspire generations unborn to emulate his noble qualities.

We believe that the celebration of such a global icon should not end with his funeral.
