President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has charged the newly appointed High Commissioner to Malaysia, Mrs Akua Sakyiwaa Ahenkorah, to help deepen economic and bilateral ties between the two countries.

The President further admonished Mrs Ahenkorah to do everything possible to guard and uphold the image of Ghana, which was high in the comity of nations.
At a short ceremony at the Flagstaff House in Accra on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo congratulated the envoy on her “well-deserved appointment”.
“Your appointment is a summit you have reached deservingly,” he said, recalling her many years of hard, selfless, dedicated and professional service at the foreign affairs ministry.
President Akufo-Addo further urged Mrs Ahenkorah, who is the first female Ghanaian envoy to be appointed to Malaysia, to work towards attracting foreign direct investments into country.
The President, thus, reminded the High Commissioner of the fact that “the image of our country is high in the comity of nations, and Ghana is considered a beacon of stability and democracy on the continent of Africa and beyond. It is an image that you have to do everything possible to guard and uphold”.
It will be recalled that Ghana attained independence at the same time as Malaysia; however, Malaysia has chalked remarkable economic successes over the period.
The President recalled the historical account of Malaysia “procuring her first palm kennel seedlings from Ghana. But, today, this crop has become the mainstay of that country’s economy, producing millions of tonnes of palm oil annually”, whereas Ghana has not gained much from the cash crop.
It is in line with the President’s vision of a ‘Ghana Beyond Aid’ that he urged Akua Sakyiwaa Ahenkorah to be focused on establishing good working relationship with the foreign service officials at her new post to ensure the success of her tenure.
“I am confident that you would discharge yourself creditably”, the President added.
Mrs Ahenkorah was grateful to the President for the confidence reposed in her, and assured of her loyalty in the discharge of her duties.
She promised to safeguard, protect and promote the image and interest of Ghana, and work to strengthen the already cordial relations between Ghana and Malaysia.
