The Gosky Alabi Bortiokor (GAB) Foundation, a Not-for-profit Organization, has shown love to some Persons Living with Disability (PLWDs) in Accra
The GAB Foundation which advocates for PLWDs, organized its annual end of year get-together for PWDs in the La, Ledzokuku and Krowor Municipalities respectively.
The Foundation presented various items and scholarship packages to selected beneficiaries from the aforementioned areas, to enable them meet some of their needs.
The presentation was done by the President of the Foundation, Professor Gosky Bortiokor Alabi who is the wife of Prof. Joshua Alabi, one of the leading contenders in the NDC Flagbearership race. Joshua Alabi also presented a cheque of an undisclosed amount to beneficiaries who are pursuing various courses at the LEWE University College, Accra which he owns.
Others received brand new wheel-chairs to replace their worn-out ones. These new wheel-chairs were donated by one Bishop Charles Mills, in his quest to support the foundation in its projects.
The project is to discourage PLWDs from begging on the streets; and the get-together was to create awareness to the effect that disability is not inability.
In an interview with the GhanaNewsOnline.com.gh, Professor Gosky Alabi, disclosed that her Foundation has been in existence for about 19 years now and that it has impacted society through its special advocacy for Persons Living with Disabilities.
She said GAB started when some white persons from France came to donate some basic items to some PWDs at a function she happens to be present.
This, she noted gave her the inspiration to also start from somewhere and gradually the Foundation is touching lives of these vulnerable persons in the society.
Professor Gosky Alabi said over the years the foundation has supported and partnered Persons Living with Disability to give scholarships for members who qualify to study at the tertiary level.
She mentioned that her Foundation would also give out clutches among others to others who need to replace theirs.
She appealed to District Assemblies to ensure the timely release of Funds to PLWDs to enable its members better serve their needs.
