Government must support AngloGold Obuasi to commence operations

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah has paid a visit to the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine.

The visit was to enable him to be abreast with measures by the management to resume full operations, the security situation at the mine and ascertain the spate of illegal mining activities within the concession.

Mr. Osei Mensah was accompanied by the Deputy Regional Minister, Elizabeth Agyemang.

Both the Minister and his Deputy and members of the Regional Security Council held a closed door meeting with Management of AngloGold Ashanti.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Regional Minister said barring any financial difficulties, the company would by the end of the year resume operations adding that government must ensure that the mine is granted the required permit to commence operations.

Mr. Osei Mensah commended management of Anglogold Ashanti for not withdrawing all personnel from the site but keeping key personnel in place until resumption of full scale operations.
