Gov’t makes progress on Zongo Dev’t Fund

The Draft Bill on the Zongo Development Fund will be sent to Cabinet in two weeks.

The Minister for Inner-City and Zongo Development, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique, who announced this said, his Ministry is almost done with consulting key stakeholders in the Zongo communities to garner ideas on areas of priority for the Fund.

Addressing the media in the Eastern Regional capital Koforidua after consultative meetings with the Zongo communities, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique said he will submit a report on his nationwide tour of Zongo communities at Cabinet meeting.

He said Cabinet will then submit it to the Minister for Justice and Attorney-General.

The Minister noted that government is of the belief that, Muslim dominated communities popularly called Zongos can be viable tourist attractions when they are well developed.

Alhaji saddique, was optimistic that, the Bill will not face any major setbacks when laid before Parliament.

The establishment of the Zongo Development Fund was a major campaign promise of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prior to the 2016 elections.
