The family of a 47 year-old businessman has accused two police offers at the Ashaiman New York Police station for beating to death their relation, John Dziwornu, a resident of Ashaiman Atadeka.
The police officers were alleged to have beaten the businessman together with some two macho men and a business partner of the deceased, one Apostle Elvis Tandor at a guest at Atadeka near Ashaiman.
The businessman was allegedly beaten to death at Apostle Elvis Tandor’s guest house at Ashaiman New York within the Kpone Katamanso Municipality.
According to the elder brother of the deceased, Joseph Dziwornu, the deceased was at home on Friday when he received a call from his business partner Elvis Tandor asking him to meet him at his hotel which was few meters away from the deceased house.
Mr. Dziwornu noted that, “according to eye witnesses at the scene, they heard some wrangling at the hotel reception but since it was locked they could not enter. Moments later they saw a man (my brother) rushed out of the hotel running but was chased by some two police personnel accompanied with the owner of the hotel and two other macho men who shouted ‘juloree juloree’. He was later arrested and beaten until he became unconscious. So at this point one of my nephew’s called Atsu got to the scene.”
When Atsu was contacted, he explained that “I called Apostle Elvis around 12:30 thereabout to ask him of something and as soon as he answered, he told me he was trying to arrest my uncle but he was misbehaving. So I asked him to hold on and that I was on my way. When I got there I realized my uncle was dead. I noticed he had some bruises and a swell on his neck and blood oozing from his mouth with saliva which suggested to me that he might have been beaten. When I complained to the police that my uncle was dead, one of the police officer called Michael told me John was only pretending to be dead so he will gain consciousness when we got to the police station.”
Atsu continued that, “John was bungled into a taxi and sent to the Ashaiman New York Police station where he was given water but remained unconscious, so the commander asked that he was rushed to the hospital but the result remained the same.”
When Apostle Elvis Tandor was contacted, he said he only invited John so he could cause his arrest saying, “I only invited the police to effect the John’s arrest for owing me some amount of monies and lands. So if anything has gone wrong in the process of his arrest, the police is best to answer that.”
Efforts to reach the police to get a reaction have however proved futile.
The family of the deceased businessman is however accusing the Ashaiman New York Police of having a hand in the wicked act and is calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to, as a matter of urgency, launches an investigation into the matter and ensures the two police officers and the businessmen are brought to book.
Go News can however confirm that so far, no arrest has been made.
