The growing trend at which New Patriotic Party’s Members of Parliament for Tema West, East and Central are thwarting the collective efforts of the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Felix Mensah Nii Annang- La and the assembly, is very devastating.
In recent past, Tema East MP who doubles as Deputy Minister for Transport Daniel Nii-Kwartei Titus Glover, and new entrant Carlos Kingsley Ahinkorah, also Deputy Minister for Trade have deliberately used their political clout to foil evacuation exercises, passed by the general assembly with impunity.
Reports suggest that, not only did Mr. Titus-Glover resisted such an exercise to be carried out at the Community 1 market “Kwasia dwaso” after the approval of General Assembly, a highest decision making body of the assembly, but also abused the Metropolitan Chief Executive verbally, before the traders and the Restoration Works Crew of the Assembly.
XYZ News’ Ibrahim Obeng-Mensah contacted the MCE on the subject but declined to comment on matter saying, “it is one of those things, let’s leave this matter for now. But I can assure you that, the assembly’s resolution shall be passed without any opposition” he stated.
Latest to join the fray, is the Tema West MP Carlos Kingsley Ahinkorah, who aggressively resisted a similar exercise at Cocoa Village last Friday. The MP angrily told the Navy Officers at the demolition scene, to leave the premises in variance to the order by the Metropolitan Chief Executive. ” I am a Deputy Minister and MP for this area go and tell the MCE that, I have stopped you or better still he should go to Tema East or Central to carry this exercise not in my constituency. If u come here again, I will allow boys and you will have no option than to shoot all of us.” He angrily stated with impunity.
According to the Metropolitan Chief Executive, the assembly resolved to evacuate the squatters after several request from Cocobod. ” Cocobod wrote to us of the challenges these squatters posed to them hence our action. And am surprised our MPs are doing this, since it wasn’t my sole decision, but that of the collective assembly of which they are part of ” he opined.
The MCE, although worried about the conduct of his MPs who are of the same political party, told myxyzonline that, the assembly shall take appropriate measures to deal with the in-house opposition.
Mr. Ahinkorah, also a board member of Cocobod denied ever inciting his boys to foment troubles at the expense of the assembly and Cocobod.
That notwithstanding, the affable businessman and soft-spoken Member of Parliament for Tema Central, Kofi Brako, also violated a court order and resisted the Police and the Military to eject some illegal occupants of the Kaiser Flat berely two months ago.
Sources within the assembly hinted that, these Members of Parliament did a yo man’s job prior to the appointment and subsequent endorsement of the Metropolitan Chief Executive hence the MPs insatiable quest of doing things they perceived to be right at the expense of the General Assembly’s decision.
Too, sources available to myxyzonline indicate that, the MCE is crippled and therefore the need for the President’s intervention to call these MPs to order and allow the MCE work for the mutual benefit of Tema.
Reacting to the conduct of these MPs, the Presiding Member of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly Richard Fiadomor, told myxyzonline that, it is natural for these Members of Parliament to seen by their constituents to be fighting for them.
Delving deeper, he declined to assertions that, the attitude portrayed by these MPs amount to bullying of his Chief Executive. Too, he said, the MCE Felix Mensah Nii Annang-La, is a fair but strong leader who would not succumb to any pressure to do what is right.
