Jumia Ghana, a leader in e-commerce in Ghana has launched its 2018 Mobile Report with findings showing a marked increase in mobile phone sales on its platform over the last twelve months. The report which shows a 75 percent increase in the sale of mobile phones also reveals that 90 percent of the sales increase is driven by a boost in smartphone phone sales. The data further indicates that smartphone brands like Infinix, Hotwav, Tecno, Samsung dominate the market in terms of sales volumes.
Commenting on the report, Ore Odunanya, the Managing Director of Jumia Ghana states “This huge growth is indicative of a general growth trend in the telecommunications industry as a whole which has seen mobile penetration peak at 130%.” “Analyzing the data further shows that more Ghanaians are now getting connected with most opting for smartphones as against feature phones and that is a positive development for all players in the telecommunication sector as a whole” Ore adds.
On his part, Yele Adeeko, the Commercial Manager of Jumia, believes current trends in the mobile market foretell a “positive growth trajectory for the mobile market driven mainly by the influx of otherwise ‘unknown’ brands introducing highly specked and affordable smartphones onto the market.” According to Yele, “established brands like Samsung and Huawei are also beginning to bring in new models at aggressive price points further boosting competition and driving growth.”
The Jumia Mobile Report is a research work that takes a holistic look at the mobile sector of the telecommunication industry in the country and how current trends portend growth forecast in the coming year.
