An initiative dubbed “Local Food Friday’’, a deliberate strategy to boost local food patronage and promote local restaurants has been launched by Jumia Foods.
The Local Food Friday started on Friday, December 8, 2017 and runs every Friday. Just like the ‘Friday Wear’ initiative that has been adopted by many in the country, Jumia proposed that Fridays be used as a day for Ghanaians and expatriates to patronize and consume local food.
Mr. Terry Afram, the Managing Director of Jumia Food Ghana who announced the initiative in Accra said in line with the overall strategy of the company to promote local businesses and eliminate the gap between them and customers, “Local Food Friday’’ would get Ghanaians and expatriates ordering local food at very affordable prices. Customers, he added, would now enjoy their regular fufu and soup, banku and tilapia, yam and kontomire stew and other local meals every Friday from their favorite local restaurants at reduced prices.
The Managing Director of Jumia Food Ghana, said “the Local Food Friday campaign is an answer to the identified need to boost the patronage of local food in the country. With this campaign we aim to influence consumer behavior such that the ordering of local food on our platform becomes just as common as ordering, for example pizza. We acknowledge the positive side-effects for the Ghanaian economy and are keen to contribute to it in this way.”
Mr. Afram added that “this campaign should however not be misunderstood as discouraging the consumer of patronizing non-local food on the platform. We esteem the non-local cuisines just as much but specifically identified the necessity to boost the local foods.’’
To place your “Local Food Friday” meal order, he said, you are simply require to login using your Jumia Food account or signup if you are a new user. Alternatively, one can download the Jumia Food application on android or apple [app store]. You simply enter your location, select your favorite local food restaurant and choose your preferred meal from the menu.
GhanaNewsOnline.com.gh has gathered that users have the option of paying cash or via mobile money payment service. From Friday December 8, Jumia is giving its cherished customers up to 50% discount on selected meals for a week, after which there will be discounts every Friday.
