The family of the late Ahmed Hussein-Suale, an undercover journalist who was brutally assassinated by unknown gunmen recently, have singled out the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong as the cause of his death.
They have also warned Kennedy Agyapong from using money to distract investigators in the murder case. In a Press statement read yesterday by one Mustapha Iddrisu, a representative of late Mr. Suale’s family, the family accused Kennedy Agyapong of using a GHC 100,000 bounty on the head of the killers to distort investigations into the murder.
According to Mr. Iddrisu, although the family does not have concrete evidence to nail Kennedy Agyapong to the murder, they can only draw from his call to order for people to cause harm to the slain undercover journalists anywhere they encountered him.
“It is an insult to the conscience of the family that a man who called for harm to be visited on our son will turn around a few months down the line, after that call for harm had been overly subscribed, to say he is placing a bounty on the head of those who may have acted on his call or got leads thereby to carry out the act,” he added.
Mr. Agyapong in his rant against the undercover journalist who worked with ace Ghanaian investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas, stated that he had paid the school fees of Hussein-Suale in the University. “Mr Agyapong’s assertion that he had assisted in paying Suale’s school fees, saying: “At no point in the entire education journey of our son was he assisted by Kennedy Agyapong. Our family has always had the wherewithal to fund the education of its members and Suale was not an exception,”the family stated in rebuttal to that claim.
Hussein-Suale was executed close to his Madina home some few weeks ago when unknown assailants mounting motorbikes ambushed him and shot him three time, shortly after Kennedy Agyapong has publicly displayed the pictures of the journalists who has always been undercover.
According to preliminary reports, he was shot twice in the heart and once in the head area.
Ken Agyapong went on a massive rant in June 2018 when Anas and the Tiger Eye PI team released their undercover documentary titled Number 12. It uncovered serious rots in Ghana’s Football Association (GFA).
Although the film indicted referees and other football officials its main focus was the then President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi.
Nyantakyi who has since been banned for life from all football-related activities by the world football governing body, FIFA. The documentary also referred to some rent-seeking in the NPP government, of which Ken Agyapong felt strongly against and called for the lynching of the lead journalist in the exposure.
When Mr. Suale was murdred Kennedy Agyapong sought to link Anas to the murder by saying there was a rift between him and Hussein-Suale, leading to Suale’s resignation from Tiger Eye PI. However, Mr Iddrisu has categorically refuted this claim saying: “On the day of his unfortunate assassination, he was with Anas throughout and had informed some family members about the collaboration between Tiger Eye and the Attorney-General’s Office to prosecute those implicated in the Number 12 exposé. How could individuals at loggerheads jointly secure visas to travel out of the Ghanaian jurisdiction for an assignment which was due in the first week of the month of February 2019?
“We are appealing to Mr Agyapong to allow the innocent soul of our son, father and brother to rest in eternal peace. We are confident and hopeful that the thunder spirit worldwide and the innocent soul of our son will soon haunt out those whose hands are dripping with his blood,” he added.
Meanwhile, a cornered Ken Agyapong has lashed out at the family, “What have I said to irritate anyone? I don’t understand. Nobody can threaten me, I would not allow myself to be accused of something I know nothing about. They cannot threaten me by using this stupid paper. This guy who did the press conference is stupid, this is about a dead person and you go around organising a silly press conference. I am not scared of anyone,” Ken Agyapong said.
