The plethora of activities relating to legal matters in recent times, point to the need for every person to be armed with some knowledge of the law.
The most recent important activity in this regard is the launch of a new book on legal literacy for ordinary citizens, titled “iLegal” on 29th June, 2017, at the auditorium of Knutsford University College, East Legon.
The author of the book, one of Ghana’s finest practicing business lawyers and lead counsel for many top institutions, as well as a practicing and academic leader in law, Nana Oppong, who goes with the pen name ‘Nana Em’.
He explained that he was driven to write the book, following the realization that there is the need for every individual to understand some level of legal culture to avoid being cheated at any stage in laugh.
Nana Em said the law is based on common sense, and that there is a difference between ‘law’ and ‘the law’, a distinction that everyone must be familiar with.
Present at the launch of the book was the Director of Ghana Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, the Vice Chancellor of Knutsford University, legal practitioners personnel from the security services, law lecturers and students from the various fields of academia.
Prior to the official unveiling of the book, Nana Em summarized all of the worlds laws into three (3) namely; the right to be wise, the right to be foolish, and the right for the wise to exploit the fool.
The book “iLegal” has already received reviews from experts across the globe.
Opanin Obeng Fosu, the author of ‘Industrial Relations’ said “the book is a master-piece and any person who reads it and puts the suggested views in practice in life, would escape those who would like to cheat others in life.”
Prof. James Daniels, International Counsel, New York also stated that “if the ‘iLegal’ was written in an era of autocratic rule, and ignorant censorship, it might have been classified as a great intellectual gift to the people and banned as illegal. The book is a classic and a must read for all great lawyers, intellectuals, politicians and business leaders of every persuasion. I highly recommend it as the text book for elite supremacy.”
