Hon. Eugene Boakye Antwi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Subin Constituency has called on Parliament to make laws on secret recordings arising from the influx of electronic gadgets used for social media purposes, especially, on public safety, health, moral insecurity, threat of disorder and the protection of people’s rights.
He expressed disgust at the circulation of images of private lives on social media. He opined that social media has made it possible for users to record private conversations, pictures, etc.
He said, elsewhere, legislation is made about the use of modern electronic media and aggrieved parties has redress at the law courts.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa corroborated the statement by making reference to recent images of private nature and the recording of private conversations.
Other contributors on the floor of the House including the Majority and Minority leaders and Hon. Atta Akyea also asked for the matter to be given due and prompt attention as representatives of the people to protect their interests.
