The National Leadership of Floating Voters Association of Ghana (FVAGh) has indicated that the shooting at the Ashanti Regional office of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was a result of the “boot-for-boot” comment passed by the Former President John Dramani Mahama some weeks ago.
According to the association the party vigilante group got their encouragement to besiege the party’s regional office to disrupt their meeting from the open endorsement by the leadership of the party.
This was contained in a statement released by the association and copied ghananewsonline.com.gh. it was signed by the President and the General Secretary of the Association, Ben Anderson and Bright Cidi-Ocloo respectively.
The statement also accused “the two mainstream political parties” – the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the NDC for adopting vigilantism to proof political strength over their opponent.
“The dominance of vigilante groups in our today’s politics is on the rise day after day. The two mainstream political parties in the country (NPP & NDC) has adopted the formation of vigilante groups as a tradition to proof political party strength over their opponents,” it states.
The statement also revealed that “the gun shots at the NDC Ashanti Regional Head Office was fired by some known Hawks vigilante group members, a vigilante group which has been endorsed by the general secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, on various media platforms. The multiple gun shots which has resulted in the death of a citizen of Ghana and injured another, was inspired by the boot for boot comment made by Former President John Mahama, because such comments has boosted the morals of the NDC party members and especially their vigilante group members for the purpose of violence” part of the statement reads.
The Floating Voters Association sympathised with the victims of the gunshot incidence and urged the general public to assist the police service in their investigations.
They emphasised that those who committed the crime must be brought to book.
“The police service must also make it a task to dissolve all political vigilante groups in the country as soon as possible irrespective of their political colors”
