Market Women’s Day Celebration Ghana, a body mandated to promote the interest and welfare of market women in Ghana has organized a training workshop to educate selected market women on basic accounting principles and how to prudently manage funds to grow their businesses.
Market women from Koforidua, Kasoa, Ada and Kumasi took part in the workshop in Accra.
Mr. Kweku Akuemoah Denkye Mensah told GhanaNewsOnline.com.gh in an interview that market women were also schooled on basic book keeping principles and told to avoid impulse buying.
Resources persons with deep knowledge in growing small, medium enterprises took turns to advise the market women to desist from buying expensive funeral clothes, cut down on number of funerals to attend and rather channel their financial resources into educating their children caring for their health needs.
Kweku Akuemoah Denkye Mensah explained that so far as a day has been set aside to honor and celebrate farmers, doctors and teachers, it is fair to acknowledge the contributions of market women to the socio-economic development of the.
The Deputy Greater Accra Regional Minister, Elizabeth Sackey, launched the Market Women Day Celebration Ghana with a call on market women to avoid selling on the street due to the risk associated with the practice.
