– Urges Massive Turn Out During Impending Referendum
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Aowin in the Western Region, Mathias Kwame Ntow, on Farmer’s Day, December 7, 2018, went to the rescue of the Aowin Municipal Assembly when he donated a Motor Cycle (Aboboyaa) to the best Municipal farmer for the occasion, Nana Kyenkyenku of Korjour in the constituency.
Ntow took the action because of what he described as insufficient items meant for award to farmers on that momentous occasion.
Briefing newsmen on his return from the celebration, Ntow indicated that the items that the Assembly presented as awards for deserving farmers consisted of agro-chemicals, wellington boots and cutlasses.
He stated that finding these insufficient and discouraging, he had to purchase the ultimate price of a motor tricycle at a cost of GH¢8,300 for the best farmer.
Farmers Deserve Better
While congratulating farmers for their fat in feeding Ghanaian via the provision of food stuff and also sustaining the economy with cash crops such as cocoa, rubber oil, palm etc, all these years he indicated that farmers deserve better than this yearly ritual of Farmer’s Day Celebration. “Farmers should have been the est people to be taken better care of because of the immeasurable role they play in the country. Unfortunately, however, they turn to be the least catered for by government!” he lamented.
Hon. Ntow subsequently appealed to government to take better care of farmers, at least by providing more corresponding rewards for them in subsequent years especially during their Farmers Day Celebration.
Bad roads, Bane of our Suffering
Hon. Ntwo tearfully talked about the bad nature of roads in his constituency, describing them as not only deplorable, but also regrettable for such an endowed constituency that abounds and supplies the country with natural resources, raising from food crops through cash crops and mineral resources.
The MP expressed regret at the bad/nature of roads there and hinted that even conveying patients and pregnant women from one part of the constituency to another always ends up in disaster.
Foodstuff, Cocoa Rot
Ntwo stated that because of the bad nature of their roads, food stuff produced by farmers get rotten by way of post-harvest loses. A situation which he pointed out had always had a negative toll on the financial plight of the people thereby rendering them poverty-stricken. He also hinted that the more cocoa produced there get locked up as they can’t be easily evacuated.
The Golden Bird
While arguing that it was not prudent for one to kill the golden bird that lays the golden egg, Ntow appealed to government not to leave the people to their deplorable state but go their aid by rehabilitating their aid to open up the place, and thus make life worth living for them, especially with the sinohydro Ghanaian facility.
He mentioned some of the deplorable roads as the Enchie-Elluibo trunk road, the Endie-Akombra Road, the Enchie-Akontobra-Sefwi-Wiawso Roads and many more.
Vote massively on December 27
The Member of Parliament also took to opportunity to enlighten the people on the creation of the North Western Region from the existing Western Region, and the need for them to vote massively on the referendum day which fall on December 27.
He indicated that the creation of this new region will ene….. such deprived places opened up for development. Therefore, when the day comes, they should go and vote in their numbers so that they can get a “100% yes vote”. He hinted that MPs in the affected constituency had to meet with the Paramount chief of Sefwi Wiawso and his elders, to deliberate on the issue over the weekend, with the consensus that all should put their hands on deck for the success story on this new region.
The MP also admonished some of his constituents against transferring their votes to the Akontombra constituency saying that it will go against the Aowin constituency in term of development, since numbers are needed in such instances.
