NDF calls for Peace in the Northern Ghana

The Northern Development Forum (NDF), is appealing to all factions in the recent violence, that has claimed the lives of several people including a Chief in the Northern Region, to lay down their arms and strive for peaceful co-existence.

It will be recalled that, a few days ago, it was reported that the Chief of Sayeegu and four others including his eldest son were assassinated in a renewed protracted land dispute between the Sayeegu and Sambiluk communities near Nakpanduri in the Bunkprugu-Yunyoo District of the Northern Region.

We strongly condemn any form of violence to settle personal scores, make claims to interests or stake out purported rights. We therefore ask all those who take delight in causing trouble to desist from such acts. The North has too many challenges to address that we cannot and should not let selfish and greedy interests take us away from solving the developmental challenges confronting us as a people.

The question of peace and stability can never be over-emphasized; it is the sine qua non of all the aims of NDF. We would therefore like to call on the youth of the three Regions of Northern Ghana to ignore any person or group of people who will attempt to use them to incite violence or conflicts just to achieve their greedy and selfish ambitions.

We pray and hope that those causing violence will bury the hatchet and give peace a chance. Let us love one another without pretense, avoid what is evil and stick to what is good. While condemning this heinous act, we express our sympathy and condolences to the families of the victims. We share in their grief and loss and pray that the Almighty bless them.

Sent out on behalf of Dr. Hakeem Wemah, Chairman of NDF.
