Authorities at the Prempeh College in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region have denied media reports that some 51 students have been sacked for failing to meet grades required by the school.
Speaking to XYZ News, the Head of Administration, Mr. Attah Gyamfi Jones said the school authority has not taken any final decision to sack any student.
Mr. Gyamfi explained that it is a long standing policy of the school to invite parents of students who fail in their terminal exams to determine the best approach to help such students.
He added that after meeting the parents, the students will be given the opportunity to either change their course or continue to pursue the course they chose but will be repeated if they fail again.
The school authorities were reported to have sacked 51 students who failed in their exams but these students were still loitering in the school hoping the authority will rescind in its decision to sack them.
The report said some of the parents had already threatened court action but others wanted to foot the bills of their wards since the Free SHS Policy only serves fresh BECE Graduates.
“That is the rumour going round but we have not sacked anyone. Our teachers are good, if not they will not be here. If the students are not doing well, then it means they are not learning. We give them the opportunity to change course but if they are still not doing well then we repeat them”, he stated.
