NPP Elections: Police fire tear gas

The police in Koforidua resorted to the firing of gas on angry supporters of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) who tried forcing their way into the main arena where the National Delegates Conference is taking place.

Some of the supporters MyNewsGh.com gathered, were not accredited but tried to force their way into the events ground incurring the wrath of the police who fired the tear gas to disperse them and keep the situation under control.

Accredited delegates who queued to enter, were forced by the situation to take cover until the situation normalized.

The NPP is holding its 26th Delegates Conference in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional Capital under the theme “building a stronger party, delivering prosperity to Ghanaians”

6000 delegates from all the ten regions of the country are expected to attend the upcoming 26th National Delegates Conference.

In all, twelve polling stations have been designated by the national elections committee in conjunction with Electoral Commission to cater for the elections.

About 41 persons are contesting for the 10 available positions up for grabs in the forthcoming national delegates’ conference.

Three people are contesting the National Chairmanship position, seven for the National Vice-Chairpersons slot, two for the General Secretary place,  six for the National Treasurer position and three for the National Organiser slot.
