The Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has stated its resolve and banned the operations of tricycles, otherwise know us ‘Mahama Camboo’, in the Bolgatanga Municipality.
The move follows concerns relating to the commercialisation of the tricycles, reckless use of the machines by their operators, especially minors, and total disregard for traffic regulations among others.
In a statement issued after a REGSEC meeting, and signed by the Coordinating Director, Upper East Regional Coordinating Council, Alhaji Abubakar Abdulai, “REGSEC is, therefore, banning the use of “Mahama Camboo”, effective Friday, May 26, between 7:00pm and 6:00am each day for a period of one month, and has also impressed upon the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to invoke the relevant sanctions on drivers and vehicle owners who park unlawfully in the township.”
The council entreated drivers, traditional and religious bodies, the media and the general public to help curtail the negative use of tricycles and wrongful parking in the Bolgatanga Municipality, adding, the council will fully implement planned sanctions against offenders if the current trend of events continue.
