Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested four persons for possessing dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis.
The Atwima Nwabiagya Police Command who confirmed the arrest says the four, Kwaku Asamoah, 67, Akwasi Nicholas 32, Abena Achiaa 60 and Ama Werekowaa 34, were arrested on Wednesday, August 30, at Ahwerewa, near Nkawie in the Atwima Nwabiagya District of the Ashanti Region.
“They were arrested at about 21:30hrs GMT following police intelligence. We proceeded to Ahwerewa, near Nkawie and brought the suspects to the station”
“We retrieved seven jute sacks full of dried plant materials suspected to be cannabis, two slabs, twenty-two wrappers and two black polythene bags all containing dried plant materials also suspected to be cannabis”, District Police Commander, DSP Emmanuel Asiamah told journalists.
The suspects and the exhibits according to the police chief have been transported to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Ashanti Regional Command to continue with investigations.
The police in recent times have heightened surveillance in the country in order to apprehend persons who are alleged to be engaged in the trade of the illicit drug.
Last week alone, two constables with the Ghana Police Service have been arrested in possesing of large quantities of the substance suspected to be ‘wee’.
