A movie producer, Mr. Gilbert Krovia Shante has been arrested by the Anyaa District Police for using the name of producers of popular movie “Beast Of No Nation” to defraud upcoming movie stars in Ghana of huge sums of money.
Narrating the incident to this reporter, a member of the production house in charge of “Beast Of No Nation“, Mr. Harruna Siedu Zoree said Mr Gilbert has used the name of the company for a long time to con people in Ghanaian communities and extort money from them.
According to him, the fraudster run away from that community after he accomplished his mission.
Mr. Zoree said: “We were hinted by some people that, Mr. Gilbert was using our company’s image to tell people to come for auditions to be casted in a new Hollywood movie like “Beast Of No Nation. So we decided to trace for three days with him giving us different locations anytime we contact him us up and coming actors that want to take part in the audition. But before that, we leant he had a container at Awoshi which he operated as his office. So we reported to the Anyaa Police station and the Police went to arrest him and took him to the station for more information about the business.”
Also, Danny Damah who heads Deal Real Productions, producers of “Beasts of No Nation” said they have no hand in the Mr. Gilbert Krovia Shante’s escapades and did not assign him to audition on behalf of the company.
Confirming the arrest from the Anyaa District Police Station, the suspect Mr Gilbert Krovia Shante was handcuffed and been questioned by the CID whether the report was true and if he knew other people into such business.
The police however confirmed the arrest and said investigations are underway to probably arrest others who are into such business.
Beasts of No Nation
Beasts of No Nation is a 2015 American war drama film written, co-produced and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, who acted as his own cinematographer, about a young boy who becomes a child soldier as his country goes through a horrific war.
Shot in Ghana and starring Idris Elba, Abraham Attah, Ama K. Abebrese, Grace Nortey, David Dontoh, and Opeyemi Fagbohungbe, the film is based on the 2005 novel of the same nameby Uzodinma Iweala― the book itself being named after a Fela Kuti album.
The film was shown in the Special Presentation section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival, and released on Netflix globally and in a limited release by Bleecker Street on October 16, 2015.
