RAKOD Widow Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization which is reaching out widows, the less privileged and the fatherless in society through its Strengthening Community Care And Support project, has done it again.
During this year’s mothers day celebration, RAKOD together with a visiting NGO, OLAF (Our Life Aid Foundation) from Koforidua in the Eastern Region, put unending joy to the hearts and smiles to the faces or widows in Torgorme of the Volta Region.
The Foundation which is much focused on the health of widows across the country, was at Torgorme yesterday, May 14, 2017 purposely to celebrate the day with mothers.
The day was indeed fun-filled one as widows as well as mothers danced to the tunes and beats of borborbor, whilst they were treated to live cultural performance from children from the community.
The widows who could not hide their joy told this reporter that, RAKOD Widows Foundation has been a strong pillar behind them.
According to them, ever since RAKOD started its project in the community, their living conditions have improved and that they have benefitted greatly from the medical team from the foundation.
They said, celebrating mothers day is something they have never experienced and do not expect, but RAKOD and OLAF have made it a dream come true for them to also celebrate.
They thanked the two NGOs for coming to the community to celebrate with them.
“These people leave their real mothers at home, came all the way to Torhorme to make us happy. Indeed we are happy and we pray that the Good Lord will continue to bless them so that they will continue to be a blessing to others and to people like us,” an eighty (80) year old widow said in joy.
Also, speaking to the Chief of Torgorme Traditional Area, Togbui Omanklado Gidi IV he lauded the initiatives and projects RAKOD foundation is undertaking in the area and pointed out that, the living conditions of women especially, widows have improved courtesy RAKOD Foundation.
He also thanked the organisations for bringing smiles on the faces of the widows on a day like this, and asked that they continue to make their community works paramount on their agenda so as to impact many lives.
