Nations, whether developed or developing, do have their own peculiar history or antecedents. This history defines who they are as a people and provides useful lessons moving into the future. Indeed, it is often said that those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it.
For us as Ghanaians, one such history was the brutal murder of the 3 High Court Judges in 1982. This killings shook the nation, particularly the judiciary, to the core.
Since then, a lot of water has passed under the bridge and we have decided to close that chapter of our sordid past and move on as a nation.
So l was quite surprised when l saw a documentary from the stables of the MULTIMEDIA Group titled ”WHO KILLED THE JUDGES?”. My immediate reaction was a mixbag of curiosity and contempt.
The questions that readily came to mind were;
WHAT IS THE RATIONALE BEHIND THIS DOCUMENTARY?
IS IT A STATE-SPONSORED PROJECT? AND IF SO, WHO IS IT INTENDED TO SPITE??
IN THE ERA OF EXTREME ECONOMIC HARDSHIP AND JOB LOSSES, WILL THE REOPENING OF OLD WOUNDS SERVE ANY USEFUL PURPOSE?
The more questions l asked, the more infuriated l became.
For it became apparent to me that some misguided elements in the system are trying so hard to divert attention from the LEGENDARY INCOMPETENCE of THEIR PAY MASTERS.
Come to think of it, wouldn’t it be a bad idea for the Multimedia Group to do other documentaries with captions like these?
WHO KILLED YAA NAA AND OVER 40 OTHERS?
WHO KILLED ROCO FRIMPONG??
WHO KILLED ISSAH MOBILA??
WHO STOLE THE 77 MISSING PARCELS OF COCAINE?
It will not be a bad idea at all…, because all these are dark spots in our history Ghanaians continue to seek answers to. So enough of the cherry picking! Let’s do a documentary on each and everyone of these unpleasant happenings in our past and defer judgment to the citizens. It is only then that we can appreciate the genuineness and sincerity of this seemingly mischievous journalistic piece.
Otherwise, it will not be out of place to conclude that this ill-conceived documentary is intended to spite one man and his legacy, and that man is none other than JERRY JOHN RAWLINGS.
