A former presenter with Citi FM in Accra, Shamima Muslim, has charged the youth in Zongo communities to eschew partisan politics but strive to forge ahead in unity as one people with a common destiny.

“Excessive partisan politics is killing us slowly, you all know what this is, how can politics make us enemies” she asked rhetorically.

Speaking at the launch of the annual Zongo Youth Month in Accra on the theme “Building the Ideal Zongo Today through Innovation and Creativity” Shamima urged the Zongo youth to shun religious bigotry and intolerance of each other’s sects.

“In fact we are more tolerant of other faiths than we are of fellow Muslims who belong to other sects aside yours,” she noted.

She lamented the fact that Zongo communities in Ghana are losing the values of integrity, morality, fairness, selflessness that used to be the attributes of true Muslims.

“Now we know this is no longer the case because greed, need for haram wealth, immorality are taking hold and threatening to erode the progress we may make,” she further noted.

She however lauded the efforts of the Zongo youths’ quest to rise up to the challenge by collaborating with each other to fight for economic, political and sociocultural representation in the country.
