Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin Central constituency in the Central Region, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong says he weill stage a showdown on Tuesday June 26, 2018 when he appears before the Privileges Committee sitting of Parliament.

The Assin Central MP who is known for his ‘reckless’ and ‘unguided’ statements has been hauled before the Committee for making some disparaging comments about some of his colleague MPs as well as  the institution of Parliament during an interview with an Accra local radio station.

Agyapong speaking in an interview with members of the Parliamentary Press Corps (PPC) on the incidents leading to his summoning before the Privileges Committee angrily dared members of Committee to play tapes to prove he is guilty of the allegations leveled against him.

“Let them play the tapes in their possession for everyone to listen if I  said what they are alleging I said. Some members of this House are dumb, you hear something and hastily come to conclusion without analysing it first,” he said.

Agyapong at a point during the interview verbally attacked the Minority Chief Whip and the MP for Asawase constituency in the Ashanti region, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak who reported his conduct to the Speaker on the floor of the House.

According to him what Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak referred to in his compliant was based on comments taken out of context.

“Now I am taking him (Muntaka Mubarak) on, one-on-one, he is dumb MP,” a combative Kennedy Agyapong stated angrily.

“A whole MP, you heard something, you don’t even listen to the tape and you consume information and just come to parliament and say that I have insulted parliament. Let them play the tape,” the Assin Central MP insisted.

“Muntaka Mubarak is a dumb MP and now, I will take him on one on one. Let him go to the privileges committee that I Kennedy Agyapong say he is a dumb MP because he did not even listen to the context of the issue and just dragged the matter,”  he reiterated.

According to him, he is ever ready to face Parliament’s Privileges Committee, adding that he is not scared of anybody in this country, “I live my life and I’ll continue to speak the truth any time, any day and anywhere,” he stated.

Meanwhile the MP for Tamale Central constituency in the Northern region and a member of the Privileges Committee, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, has described as “unfortunate” comments made by the Assin Central MP, to the effect that Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak is dumb.

“It is very unfortunate, a statement like that is coming from the Honourable Member of Parliament,” he told newsmen in Parliament.

Alhaji Fuseini was responding to attacks on the Asawase legislator by Kennedy Agyapong because Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, has reported his unruly conduct and he (Agyapong) has been referred to Parliament’s Privileges Committee over purported insults.
