The Sisala West District Police Commander, ASP Guy Raymond, has said no arrest has been made after the youth of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the district went on a rampage and locked up the offices of the District Chief Executive (DCE).

Some angry youth of the party in Gwollu, in the Sisala West District, on Thursday afternoon chased out the DCE for the area, Mohammed Bakor. They also locked up his office.

According to Iddrisu Waaleka, the constituency coordinator, the youth wanted their preferred candidate to be appointed the coordinator for the Micro-finance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC) for the district.

They felt the DCE betrayed them after having several engagements with him, and party leaders failed in securing the job for their candidate.

“The Chairman for the constituency, Kanchuo D. Dramani, went to discuss with the DCE, the name of the person who should be made the MASLOC coordinator, but he refused and spoke in a rather unpleasant manner to him. The youth, who were angry, also went there to attack him but he got wind and fled from office,” Iddrisu Waaleka said.

Speaking on this development in an interview with Chief Jerry Forson, host of Ghana Yensom on Accra 100.5FM on Friday, October 27, ASP Guy Raymond said: “The youth were not violent, they just locked up the office but we managed to convince them and we opened the DCE’s office.

“For me, legitimately, they don’t have any right to go and lock somebody’s office, they don’t have the right to lock the DCE’s office or any other public office.”

He further revealed that no arrest has been made yet.

He added: “No arrest has been made so far, the reasons being that the way the mob was, it would have been a challenge. Looking at their numbers and the strength that was available to me, it would have been dangerous to make an arrest at the time, however, efforts are being made to arrest them.”
