The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tamale Central, Alhassan Suhuyini, has made a last minute u-turn to support the approval of Mr. Martin Alamisi Burns Kaiser Amidu as the Special Prosecutor of the land.
Mr. Suhuyini’s decision was communicated to the lawmakers, Tuesday by, Hon. Joseph Osei Owusu, Chairman of the Appointments Committee who doubles as the First Deputy Speaker of the Ghanaian legislature when he moved the motion for the House to adopt his committee’s report.
The announcement follows an amendment to the Committee’s report which had earlier reported the dissent vote of Mr. Suhuyini against Mr. Martin Amidu who has been nominated to occupy the Office of the Special Prosecutor.
Mr. Suhuyini moments after the public vetting of Mr. Martin Amidu for the position he has been nominated for by the President, voted against the nominee on grounds that the citizen vigilante is simply not suitable for the position.
“With the vetting of Martin Amidu, all the minority members on the Committee voted for him, all majority members voted for him but I voted against him. I think that he’s very competent for the office but don’t think he is suitable”, he was quoted as saying by news portal, myjoyonline.com.
However, just when the Committee was about to present its report to the plenary, Mr. Suhuyini had a change of mind, this time, declaring his full support for the approval of Mr. Martin Amidu as the Special Prosecutor.
It is not clear what informed his thoughts to change his earlier position on the nominee.
