Some youths from the Tema East Constituency of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in response to the uprising dissatisfaction of leadership from the current Member of Parliament for the area, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, have asked for the return of the Regional Minister to as the MP for the area.

Ishmeal Ashitey, who currently occupies the Greater-Accra regional Minister seat served as the Member of Parliament for Tema East from 1996 to 2008. Within that period he was first appointed as Minister of State for Fisheries from 2001 to 2003 by the then President John Agyekum Kufuor.

In the recent past, the current Tema East MP, Daniel Nii-Kwartei Titus Glover, who doubles as the Deputy Minister for Transport, and new entrant, Carlos Ahenkorah, also Deputy Minister for Trade, have been accused of deliberately using their political influence to foil evacuation exercises, approved by the Metropolitan Assembly with impunity.

Reports suggest that, not only did Titus-Glover resist such an exercise to be carried out at the Community 1 market – “Kwasia dwaso” after the approval of General Assembly, a highest decision making body of the assembly, but also abused the Metropolitan Chief Executive verbally, in the presence of  traders and the workers of Restoration Works of the Assembly.

According to the youth, there have been no infrastructural project since Titus-Glover occupied his seat. He has been good at disrespecting authorities and the opposition as well as promoting disunity among his own party members.

Sources within the constituency hinted that, the decision of calling back the 63 year old Ishmeal Ashitey is because of the great leadership skills he showed in his term of office.

Reports confirm that the the regional minister is highly interested in re-contesting the seat though he is yet to officially make any public pronouncements on it.
