The Trial – A Theatrical night of a fruitful encounter

Alliance Francaise Accra presents ‘The Trial’. A theatrical night of a fruitful encounter with the unknown on 28th-29th July, 2017 at 6pm and 7:30pm at the Exhibition Hall of Alliance Française Accra.

Come July 28th and 29th, patrons of Alliance Francaise Cultural events will be entertained to a fast and crazy theatre adaptation dubbed ‘The Trial’. The play revolves around a character by name, Joseph k. who might have been slandered by someone one morning, without doing anything, was arrested. In times of growing fears and resentments to all that is foreign, strange and alien, this fast and crazy theatre adaptation of the classic European novel “The Trial” is a fruitful encounter with the unknown, both in content as also in form.

Directed by Simon Eifeler, “The Trial” was first staged as work in progress in 2016 in Accra with three (3) actors from Ghana. Fascinated and inspired by the power of the unknown as a source of creative power and diversity, another version was staged in Düsseldorf with three (3) actors from Germany.

These two versions of Franz Kafka’s novel (written in 1914) met in what can be described as a sparkling mash-up of two cultures, which could not be more different. First presented to an audience in the Theatre Fabrik Düsseldorf, Germany in November 2016 and then in February of 2017 the production was staged in Accra at the Nubuke Foundation, Goethe Institut, and School of Performing Arts – University of Ghana.  (Recently played at the National Theatre of Ghana). Showing at Alliance Francaise Accra at 6pm and 7:30pm respectively on 28th and 29th July, ‘The Trial ‘promises to keep theatre lovers glued to their seats.
