The Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr Felix Anang-La, has challenged people living with disabilities (PWDs) not to see their condition as a hindrance to achieving their full potential in life.
“Each of the 117 beneficiaries received between GH¢1,000.00 and GH¢1,500.00,” he said.
He said the government of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was working to ensure the equitable distribution of the nation’s resources to provide decent lives for all Ghanaians.
Mr Anang-La made the call when the assembly gave financial support to 117 persons living with disabilities throughout the metropolis.
He advised the beneficiaries not to go out in the streets begging for alms, since that expose them to all forms of danger, and also infringes on their dignity.
The mayor encouraged those who were engaged in petty trading to invest the support in their businesses to ensure its sustainability and growth.
The Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Mrs Matilda Mahamah, said this was the best practice that should be emulated by other assemblies and organisations in supporting PWDs.
Mr Alex Tetteh, on behalf of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the TMA for the financial support, and called on the MCE to continue with the good work.
