The Communications Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West Constituency, Ursula Owusu -Ekuful has toured her constituency to inspect the poor nature of roads and open drains with the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwasi Amoako-Atta.
The deplorable state of the roads, the open drains coupled with the choked gutters poses danger to residence who finds it difficult to live and move around easily.
The situation is also causing a serious heartbreak to vehicle owners who are forced to visit the mechanics over consistent damages and breakdown of their vehicles due to the major pot holes in the town.
The sector minister, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta who was alarmed by the situation in the constituency has earmarked four major roads linking the breadth and length of the town to be treated as emergency projects.
He indicated the danger in plying these roads requires quick maintenance and construction to ease movement.
According to him, he will give approval for the construction of four major roads in the constituency after touring the 3.5 kilometer Western Link to Dansoman SSNIT, the Tunga road, Zodiac and Sahara on Monday 9th October for construction.
He added that similar exercises will be conducted in other parts of the constituency to repair and construct new roads for easy commuting.
The sector minister has also ordered the reconstruction of the open drains and the construction of new bridges to allow passage of rain water that usually bring about flooding in some parts of the town within a period of one week.
Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Atta tasked the Director of Urban Roads at the Ministry to present to him estimates of the projects that have been tipped for construction and repair by Friday 6th October to allow work to begin.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Constituency, Mrs. Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said several key parts of the constituency have been completely cut off because of the poor nature of the roads.
She expressed her gratitude to the minister for ordering for some of the really bad roads and drains to be done as a matter of urgency.
“There are other equally important roads in the constituency but I am happy it has started and I am confident this is just the beginning like the Minister have indicated and that progressively others will be worked on so that hopefully by the end of the four year term we would have seen much improvement in the roads in the constituency,” she intimated.
According to her, when these roads and drains are resolved it will ease the sufferings of the residence who are finding it difficult to walk and drive to and fro the constituency.
